For years, the YRF Spy Universe was Bollywood's most bankable franchise, delivering back-to-back blockbusters with Tiger Zinda Hai, War, Pathaan and War 2. However, that golden run appears to have hit a roadblock. According to Pinkvilla, Alpha, starring Alia Bhatt and Sharvari, is set to become the first film in the franchise to miss the ₹100 crore nett mark in India.

The development comes at a time when Yash Raj Films has been witnessing a mixed run at the box office. After four massive blockbusters established the Spy Universe as Bollywood's biggest action franchise, the studio has also seen a series of setbacks with other big-ticket releases. Alpha's performance now adds another chapter to that changing narrative.

The film's reported lifetime collection of around ₹65 crore nett would make it the lowest-grossing entry in the Spy Universe, ending a streak that saw every previous installment comfortably cross the ₹100 crore milestone. The result has sparked discussions over whether the franchise is beginning to face audience fatigue or whether Alpha simply failed to generate the same excitement as its predecessors.

Interestingly, the slowdown in the Spy Universe comes even as Bollywood has found a new box office phenomenon in Dhurandhar. While the Ranveer Singh-starrer has no connection to the YRF franchise, its success suggests that audiences continue to embrace large-scale action entertainers—provided the content strikes the right chord. Alpha box office performance confirms it as a death sentence even temporarily if they can comeback for YRF Spies.
